They can apply for an identity card for foreigners in Italy: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Non-EU citizens<\/strong> with:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Valid <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.waitaly.net\/il-permesso-di-soggiorno\/\">residence permit<\/a> (or renewal receipt)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">registered residence in Italy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>European Union citizens<\/strong> with:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Valid ID from your home country<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">registered residence in Italy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.waitaly.net\/en\/welcome-combos\/welcome-europeans\/\"><strong>registered residence<\/strong><\/a> in Italy is therefore <strong>mandatory to obtain the document.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ID card for foreigners without residence: is it possible?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer is no. In order to apply for an identity card for foreigners, it is imperative to have completed the residency process in Italy. If you are not registered as a resident on Italian soil, <strong>you cannot apply for the ID card.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, the fact that the residence permit has expired does not prevent foreigners legally staying and residing in Italy from applying for an identity card. In such cases, when applying for a foreigner&#8217;s identity card, it is necessary to present the postal receipt showing that the residence permit has been renewed. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply for an Italian identity card for non-EU and EU foreigners?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Foreign nationals in Italy must <strong>present themselves in person at the Registry Office of <\/strong>their municipality<strong> <\/strong>of residence. In many municipalities it is necessary to <strong>book the appointment online<\/strong> to apply for a foreigner&#8217;s ID card. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the case of a minor applicant, the applicant must be accompanied by both parents or a legal guardian with valid identification.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What it takes to make a foreigner&#8217;s identity card<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>documents to be presented<\/strong> to obtain an Italian identity card for foreigners are:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EU citizens<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Valid country of origin identification document<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">certificate of residence in Italy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cittadini extra UE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">valid passport<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">valid residence permit or renewal receipt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to these documents for EU and non-EU foreigners, we also need:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">a <strong>recent passport photo<\/strong> (in the same format as the passport)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">the <strong>expired ID card <\/strong>(if possessed)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Italian Ministry of the Interior also advises, when applying to the municipality, to bring along one&#8217;s social security number or health card (if possessed) so as to speed up registration.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also at the time of application, the applicant&#8217;s <strong>fingerprints<\/strong> will then be taken and consent or denial of <strong>organ donation<\/strong> will be requested.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cost and release time<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>standard cost <\/strong>is about <strong>\u20ac16.79<\/strong>, plus the fixed and secretarial fees provided by the municipality.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Issuance times are no longer as immediate as with the old paper ID card. It is therefore the<strong>only standard ID card format in Italy<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is an electronic identity card that allows access to various online services of Italian government agencies and secure identification online as well.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For foreign nationals in Italy, the CIE is also used to <strong>access digital services <\/strong>such as INPS, Agenzia delle Entrate and public administration portals, use digital authentication systems and simplify many paperwork.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike the old paper card, the CIE has <strong>a microchip<\/strong>, provides greater security against forgery, and allows access to online services through the &#8220;Enter with CIE&#8221; system.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, CIE is also an<strong>alternative to SPID<\/strong> for accessing digital services: SPID is still active, but more and more public services allow direct access via electronic ID card, reducing the need to create a separate digital identity.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Validity of identity card for foreigners<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>validity of the Italian ID card<\/strong> is:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">3 years old for children under the age of 3;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">5 years in the age group of 3 to 18 years;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Of 10 years from the date of issuance for adults.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important to consider that the ID card for non-EU foreigners is a basic identification document, which is <strong>not used to prove the non-EU citizen&#8217;s legality on Italian territory<\/strong>.
