The term \u201cdocumento di soggiorno in trattazione\u201d indicates the scenario in which the non-EU citizen who has applied for a residency permit is waiting to receive the title. The application for a residence permit, which must be presented within eight days of staying in Italy, follows a very precise procedure. The first step, once he\/she has arrived in Italy, is to collect the documentation to send the postal kit. In the kit, it is necessary to attach:
\n\u2022 A photocopy of a valid passport with the relevant entry visa;
\n\u2022 A 16.00\u20ac revenue stamp;
\n\u2022 The necessary documentation for the type of residence permit requested;
\n\u2022 The payment of a contribution of \u20ac80 to \u20ac200.<\/p>\n

The Second Step: The Appointment At The Police Headquarters<\/h3>\n

Once the postal kit has been forwarded, the citizen applying for a residence permit obtains a receipt and a convocation to the police headquarters. The first document indicates to the competent authorities that the non-EU citizen has applied for a residence permit or its renewal. The second document, on paper or in digital format by SMS, is equally important as it identifies the last step in the process of acquiring the permit. The appointment at the police headquarters may be close to the delivery of the postal kit, but there are also cases where months and months go by. \u00a0Third Step: Arrival Of The Permit<\/h3>\n

The appointment at the police headquarters is the final step in terms of the competent authorities taking charge of the documentation. It simply consists of the photodactyloscopic survey, i.e. the recording of fingerprints by the applicant. Once this procedure has been carried out, the application is entered into the system of the Ministry of the Interior, which will inform the applicant promptly as soon as the title is ready. At this point, the non-EU citizen can only wait for the arrival of the title. Timeframes, even in this case, may vary for several reasons depending on the scenarios that the title encounters during processing.<\/p>\n

Checking And Managing The Application<\/h2>\n

Few people know that a residence permit applicant can easily check the status of his application from any device. Thanks to the receipt issued by sending the postal kit, the applicant has credentials with which he\/she can access the Immigration Portal. By accessing the reserved \u201cforeigners\u201d area, applicants can check the status of their application, which involves three possible situations:
\n1. Document ready for delivery;
