Welcome Association Italy and university students participate in the celebration of 80 years of the Arab League

Rome, Oct. 31, 2025 – A delegation of university students, representing leading Italian international student associations, attended the International Conference for the 80th anniversary of the League of Arab States, held at the “Spazio Europa” Hall in Rome.

The event, titled “80 Years of Dialogue and Cooperation between the Arab League and the European Union,” was organized by theInternational Italo-Arab Association Assadakah, in collaboration with the Diplomatic Mission of the League of Arab States in Italy, and brought together ambassadors, institutional representatives and diplomats from several Arab countries.


The participation of international student associations

At the invitation of Welcome Association Italy (WAI), a delegation of students from different Italian academic institutions took part in the ceremony, representing a new path of collaboration between young people, universities and international diplomacy.

The associations involved include:

  • European Youth Network (LUISS)
  • Students Diplomatic Association (LUISS)
  • International Networking Association (LUISS)

The young participants watched with interest the contributions of diplomats and dignitaries, delving into the historical and cultural relations between the Arab world and Europe, with a focus on issues of economic cooperation, cultural diplomacy and interfaith dialogue.


A bridge between students and diplomacy

The presence of student associations within such a prominent international context confirms Welcome Association Italy ‘s commitment to promoting opportunities for education and active participation for international and Italian students.

“The collaboration with the Arab League and the diplomatic missions present in Italy represents a unique opportunity to bring young people closer to the world of international relations,” said Carlo Palumbo, Deputy National Secretary of Welcome Association Italy.
“We are pleased to have been able to offer student representation the opportunity to participate in such a high-profile institutional event, in which the themes of dialogue, cooperation and peace take center stage. WAI’s goal is to continue building bridges between diplomacy, universities and new generations, enhancing the role of young people as protagonists of the future.”


A symbolic anniversary of cooperation

The conference celebrated eight decades of dialogue and cooperation between Arab League member countries and the European Union, emphasizing Italy’s role as a strategic bridge in the Mediterranean.

During the plenary session, many ambassadors and diplomatic representatives participated, including:

  • H.E. Ines Mekkawi, Ambassador of the League of Arab States in Italy;
  • H.E. Al Toqui, Ambassador of Yemen and Dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors;
  • H.E. Mona Abouamara, Ambassador of Palestine;
  • H.E. Mohamed Khelifi, Ambassador of Algeria;
  • H.E. Rajae Naji, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Holy See.

The initiative, sponsored by the League of Arab States, the European Commission and the European Parliament, highlighted the value of interregional cooperation and cultural dialogue as tools for stability and development in the Mediterranean.
