Dialogue and Memory: Embassy of Nicaragua welcomes university students

Rome, Nov. 6, 2025-The Embassy of the Republic of Nicaragua in Italy hosted a meeting of great symbolic and cultural value with a delegation of young university students, accompanied by Welcome Association Italy (WAI) and journalist and writer Maddalena Celano.

A meeting to unite diplomacy, memory and the younger generation

The meeting, sponsored by H.E. Monica Robelo, Nicaragua’s Ambassador to Italy, was held on the occasion of the commemoration of Comandante Carlos Fonseca Amador, founder and historical leader of the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN), who fell Nov. 7 in the struggle for freedom and dignity of the Nicaraguan people.

The initiative provided a valuable opportunity to give continuity to the dialogue between diplomacy and students, which originated at the conference “Women and Diplomacy: Voices from the World,” organized by Welcome Association Italy at LUMSA University last October.

University associations involved

The visit was attended by representatives of some of the university associations most active in intercultural and diplomatic dialogue:

  • Students Diplomatic Association (LUISS)
  • European Youth Network (LUISS)
  • Ambassadors Aligned Association (LUISS)
  • International Networking Association (LUISS)
  • International Relations Innovation and Sustainability (Wisdom)

These entities, partners of WAI, promote educational experiences that bring young people closer to the world of diplomacy and international cooperation.

The contribution of Maddalena Celano

Dr. Maddalena Celano, journalist and writer, took part in the meeting consolidating the path of collaboration between WAI and Latin American representations.
Her constant commitment to promoting knowledge of the cultural and political realities of Latin America helped make this moment an opportunity for deep reflection on the link between historical memory, diplomacy and youth participation.

The value of dialogue for Welcome Association Italy

“We are honored to be able to continue this path of dialogue with diplomatic missions,” said Carlo Palumbo, Deputy National Secretary of Welcome Association Italy**.
Meetings like this one show how important it is to bring students closer to the world of diplomacy, to build a culture of cooperation and mutual respect.”

The initiative confirms WAI’s commitment to promoting opportunities for dialogue between institutions, culture and the younger generation, strengthening the educational and participatory dimension of its projects.

Conclusion

Through meetings like the one sponsored by the Embassy of Nicaragua, Welcome Association Italy renews its mission: to build bridges between students, universities and diplomatic representations, enhancing knowledge, dialogue and international solidarity.
