Welcome Association Italy at the life and health protection conference
Welcome Association Italy (WAI) participated on Dec. 6, 2025 in the conference “Guarding Life, Serving Mission: pastoral responsibility in the protection of health and neighbor,” held at the “John Paul II” Auditorium of the Pontifical Urbanian University.
The event, part of the Annus Jubilee 2025 program, brought together institutions, scientific experts, religious representatives and civil society associations to share reflections and best practices on the value of care and attention to the person.
The participation of Welcome Association Italy
Welcome Association Italy spoke on the panel devoted to associations and civil society, represented by Carlo Palumbo, Deputy National Secretary.
During the panel, Palumbo outlined the association’s mission, explaining that WAI offers assistance and support to foreign students arriving in Italy to study, accompanying them in their first steps in our country and helping them navigate their way through documents, essential services and often complex procedures.
A commitment that, as he recalled, stems from a desire to make them feel welcomed and not alone.

In his official statement, Palumbo said:
“Our work is simple to say, but very important: we help foreign students who come to Italy to study. We accompany them in their first steps in our country, help them understand what to do, how to get around, and how to access essential services. Many arrive with enthusiasm, but also with fear and confusion: we try to make them feel welcomed, listened to and not alone.”
Palumbo also recalled the values that guide the association:
- Solidarity and respect, to welcome each student as a person with a unique story.
- Transparency and care, critical to building trust.
- Institutional collaboration, made stronger by WAI’s role as a national trade union organization.
He concluded his speech by emphasizing that caring for people means walking with them, not just managing practices, fully recalling the central theme of the conference.
