WAI at end-of-term reception for Ambassador of Cuba Mirta Aurora Granda Averhoff
Welcome Association Italy (WAI) attended the end-of-term reception of H.E. Mirta Aurora Granda Averhoff, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Italy, Malta and San Marino, as well as Permanent Representative to Rome-based international organizations.
The event, which was well attended by the diplomatic corps, institutions, and the associational world, was a moment of recognition for a high-profile diplomatic figure who has made significant contributions to multilateralism and international cooperation for more than twenty-three years.
A diplomat with international and human vision
An experienced nuclear engineer and diplomat, H.E. Granda Averhoff has held positions of utmost responsibility within Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Relations, including:
- Director of Multilateral Political Affairs.
- National coordinator of the Ibero-American Summit.
- Deputy Coordinator of CELAC and CELAC-EU.
- Chief of Staff for Global Issues and Nominations at the ECOSOC NGO Committee.
He has participated in major international cooperation summits: CELAC, CELAC-EU, Ibero-American Summits, AEC, CARICOM and ALBA, contributing to global dossiers on peace, security, disarmament and regional cooperation.
He has served in Italy since January 2022 with competence, rigor and a marked focus on cultural and youth dialogue.
The initiatives carried out together with Welcome Association Italy
Over the past few years, WAI and Ambassador Granda Averhoff have collaborated on initiatives that have focused on students, cultural diplomacy and intergenerational dialogue, including:
– Dialogues on contemporary diplomacy
The Ambassador took part in meetings dedicated to the role of youth, sharing concrete experiences on the functioning of multilateral institutions and international cooperation.
– Comparison with international student delegations
Met with students involved in WAI’s programs, fostering moments of cultural exchange and learning about the value of multilateralism.
– Promotion of Cuban culture and Italian-Latin American relations.
Through moments of dialogue and testimony, it supported a cultural outreach that enabled many students to better understand the history, society and political dynamics of the Caribbean area.
